The Summits of the Americas is held to bring the Heads of State and Government of the Western Hemisphere together, to discuss and debate concerns that they may have in common, while trying to find solutions for the future that everyone can agree on, whether it might be economic, social or political.
This year, the fifth summit of the Americas was held in my home country of Trinidad and Tobago, and I must admit, it is mostly why I take such an interest in it.
It had both positive and negative effects on my country I believe, but overall, the outcome was successful in my opinion.
It was positive in a way, that it brought more exposure to Trinidad and Tobago, which could help the tourism industry.
It's also positive in the way, that we can have a say in the decisions made for future development.
However, the costs to hold this summit was no where in Trinidad's budget if you ask me. We're a third world country, and even though we might not be as badly off as some of the others, there are alot of better ways in my opinion that the money could have been spent.
But all in all, I'm still a proud Trini.
Here are some pictures taken by my brother, who worked among the security on the Carnival Victory, which was the name of the cruise ship brought in to "house" some of the many people that took part in this event. Some of the pictures also include the Hyatt Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago, where the event was held.
Enjoy.
